Magic & Sunny AKA Indi and Dip Stick

Indi AKA Magic earned his wings on January 30, 2010

They were surrendered to the shelter on 6/13/08 clinic day, they were adopted that same day; however it did not work out with the new family so they came back to me in July of 2008.

Update: November 4, 2010

Sunny, unfortunately, was helped to the Bridge last night. We kept our appt. with Doc to recheck his kidney numbers & determine if the antibiotics were helping him at all. His creatinine level had more than doubled and was completely off the chart. He was very pale though he was not bleeding anywhere so Doc said there was indication that he was not making blood. His pack cell (?) number should have been around 33% but it was only 16%. Kidney failure - not infection - was the obvious conclusion. Normally, I would have brought him home and placed him in hospice care. The decision to put him down was made due to his developing a prolapsed rectum which was causing him significant discomfort. Even if Doc repaired it, it could have popped out again at any time. We miss him, of course. On the positive side, we had almost 2 wonderful "Sunny" years with him and now he plays with his brother Magic again in a place free of pain.
Blessings, Donna

Update: April 5, 2010

Mum reminded me that I haven't sent an update on April & Sunny for a while, so here it is:

You know we lost Magic at the end of January. Sunny, his cage mate, was missing him and the snuggle up closeness they shared. Fortunately, he had developed a strong support network with his other playmates. With a little re-configuration of the cages, Sunny is now sharing a 4 story cage with the other guys - Petey, Preston, Ripley, Junior & Beamer. His "sunny" disposition is back full strength. April, our little tomboy, has joined her sisters in the "girl cave". She is enjoying a closer bond with Sugar, Ricki & Dixie. With the unfortunate passing of B'loo, the girl cave expanded to 4 stories also, so everyone has plenty of room for private space if they choose. April still enjoys a special relationship with Ripley during playtime and sometimes he's allowed to spend the night. That's all for now.

Update: August 9, 2009

Sunny(formerly Dipstick): I am not a poop! It's hard to learn to share toys and blankies, especially with April 'cause she still has a 'tude if you ask me. This is a great place! Mom says I'm getting the hang of this sharing thing. I live with Magic (Indy) just like I did at the shelter, but we get to play with our brothers & sisters everyday. Mom has a special song or songs for each of us. Mine is by the Allman Brothers. It goes "Sunshine, blue sky. You're my Sunny day. Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way!" See how special I am?

Magic: Mom calls me "the Magic Man." Says I've "got the magic hands." I like my song, but I like the Soupa Soupa song best. Every morning when Mom sings that song we get soup! I'm a pretty laid back guy but I had an adventure in the living room the other day! When Mom saw how happy it made me (I was dancin' and carrin' on!) she told Daddy he would have to find a way to block the stairs so I could be allowed in the living room for a full size adventure! I bet she lets the other have turns at an adventure, too. I heard her say maybe this weekend!

Update: May 25, 2009

Magic (Indy) and Sunny (Dipstick) are interested in all the commotion but too overwhelmed to be introduced into it yet. They had a good playtime together. Sunny has a natural taste for soup, so he enjoyed that. Both have had a couple Cheerios. Sunny seems more interested in bonding with me than Magic does. I noticed Sunny's anus was quite red. The litter box doesn't indicate a major problem, but they are not used to Pro Plan and we have made some changes, so I gave him a little pred in his soup to reduce inflammation. If the problem continues, we will consult with Doc.

Update: March 22, 2009

Indi & Dip Stick now have a forever home!

Update: April 9, 2009

We've gone slowly with the introductions with Sunny & Magic. I let them get to know 1 or 2 at a time & I waited till the original guys were already getting tired so they wouldn't be as enthusiastic over the newbies. Tonight was the first time they have been out with all my original 7. All went well for a good half hour. Then I put Sunny & Magic away so April could come out and join in. This was all bonus out time as we all had our playtimes earlier in the day.

All 3 have an appt. w/ Doc on 5/4. April is 100% (except for her sometimes nasty 'tude). Sunny still looks like he has a hemorrhoid. His poops are fine & it doesn't seem to bother him. I may get a BG on Magic. I can't tell if he's just a laid back guy, needs more time to adjust, or has a sugar problem. By the appt time I should have a better feel for him.

Hi Brenda

Yesterday we were all off schedule as most of the day was spent getting treatment for me. Result - I'm much better but still a work in process. My kids were more subdued than usual because they are used to being active from 8 to 10 or 11 am and they never got out till after 3 pm. All went well. Daisy joined in. At one point, she climbed in my guys' cage and made herself at home, eating lounging and even spooning with Petey. Magic and Sunny came out after and played together.

Today we are back on track. Daisy played with my guys, again climbed in the cage as yesterday. I'm not letting her stay there - 1. Because I think 8 in there is pushing capacity & 2. It's too soon to trust everyone together when we're not watching. She's very outgoing and congenial. Her only problem seems to be a slight aggression toward B'loo. No surprise as he is the weakling - the one with the neurological problems & possibly going adrenal. If she doesn't accept him, we can work around it as he is pretty content to spend his out time alone. Because he doesn't climb, he can be left out whenever.

Magic (Indy) and Sunny (Dipstick) are interested in all the commotion but too overwhelmed to be introduced into it yet. They had a good playtime together. FYI - I found a 7 lb bag of Pro Plan kitten formula at PetSmart in Webster. Perhaps it was just unavailable while they changed their pkging from jugs to bags and from 8 lb to 7 lb. Might want to check again.

More as it happens!
