November 8, 2024:
Hello Brenda, The babies are doing great. Everyone is bulking up and getting their winter coats. There was a bit of a fiasco with carving pumpkins this year as Archie wanted so badly to help. No one got hurt, but we had a very angry ferret who had to be confined away from the festivities. We might get him his own pumpkin next year to play in while we carve. We have been having work done on the house so they have been moved to the basement a few times to cut down on the stress of all the banging. They don't seem to mind, as the basement is typically their chosen hang out spot during the day. Artemis has made a small nest using pee pads under the stairs. She collects the clean ones from the box, drags them to her lair and tares them up to make them more fluffy. We have to clean it quite often to cut down on the smell so she starts over a lot. It is really interesting to just let them roam and watch their behaviors, because so many are obviously from their wild roots. Lili and Freyr are pretty inseparable and she uses him as a ferret sized bean bag most of the time. He, in turn, wakes her up when he is begging for food because she's cute and he thinks we are more likely to give her our human food which he can then steal. It only works like 5% of the time. Haha
I hope everything is going well at the shelter. Talk soon.

December 7, 2023:
Well it took time and patience but Archie AKA Artie is now sleeping in the same room with everyone without issue. It's been about 4 days and the late night wrestling matches have all but disappeared. He even curls up with his big brother and sisters to sleep. We still monitor the camera throughout the night just for my own piece of mind.
On another note, Artie is fascinated by the Christmas tree. He loves the pine water (no chemicals) and the low hanging plastic ornaments are his new favorite toys (even though Santa has already bought him a bunch of new toys).
I've attached a few pictures of him nestled with his brother and playing with the tree. He brings us such joy everyday.

After bringing home Archie, Alex and I felt we would like to sponsor the boys who are still waiting on a forever home, Rocco and Sam. We would like to give $50 a month starting next month. Please let me know what you need from me to start the process.
Archie's doing great. He just had a full check up with the vet and is perfect (as you probably already knew). He is starting to learn our bedtime routine and enjoys his duk soup every night. Him and Freyr really tire eachother out. Archie's new favorite thing to do is to poke Freyr until he gets him mad and then proceed to run and have Freyr chase him till he either gets caught and they butt wrestle or Freyr forgets what he is doing and they both just lay down exhausted in the middle of the rug. We have changed his name to Marduk Archibald Monday (Marty or Archie for short) so he had equal footing with the rest of the gods and goddess in our home. I've attached a few photos just because.
I don't think I told you but Alex started crying when he read the poem you sent with Archie. It's up on our fridge now and makes me smile every time I see it

Everything is going great. Archie and Freyr (Fry Cake) are getting along well. They are able to free range together without issue and their wrestling matches are now very playful. Archie will hiss at Freyr ( Fry Cake) when he's done and Freyr ( Fry Cake) gets the hint and backs off.
Archie loves smaller cat toys, a Halloween cat wand, and all the tubes. He naps with his sister's during the day (see photo) and in his own room with a female companion at night. We are waiting for the boys to nap together during the day before they all move in together.
Archie was very interested in helping us carve pumpkins (see photo). He's strong enough to pull himself up on the couch to visit with us so we have to hide the remote as he seems determined to destroy it. Haha. He's really fitting in well with our family and figuring out his position in the pack.

October 22, 2023 AM:
Hi Aunt Brenda, I'm starting to get a good feel for this place. I still have my own bedroom, but sometimes I share it will my sister Lili. My sisters are all great and even play with me now and again (except for the scary pink one who just wants to be left alone). I have had a few wrestling matches with my brother and I give it as good as I get. The matches are getting shorter and less heated and we share meals and water together during the timeouts. Mom says the biggest hurdle right now is me not knowing when to stop. Fry cake gets tired faster than me and doesn't appreciate it when I jump on his back. When that happens, Mom puts me in my room to cool down and nap before I get to come back out. Dad found some teething toys for me which I love and chewing helps to calm me down.
We are making progress.
Love, Archie

October 19, 2023:
Dear Aunt Brenda, I have traveled to a strange big world. I was really good on the car ride and settled right down in my new carrier. This one is much nicer than my old one and even has a sunroof. Went they let me out I was in my own room with new bedding, toys, and a water fountain. I already chewed through one toy so the lady took that one away and told the man I was going to have to be watched in the future. I have marked my room often, but still have not found my appetite. I have a couple different options, but am just a little overwhelmed. Hopefully I start eating soon.
After everyone else was put to bed, me and the man explored the house. It's huge!! It took me a little time to figure out the stairs but I got them now. I am getting more confident and have started playing more with the man and lady.
Tomorrow I may play with one of my sisters in the house. I think I am going to like it here. Love, Archie

October 19, 2023:
The campers were picked up at 12:30, Alex filled out the adoption papers, Archie went home with them. I had Archie in the kitchen with Lili for a bit, they chased each other around. One of them would hide behind something when the other came by they would jump out at them. Lili wanted back in the play area with her cage mates so I set her back in and let Archie terrorize me.

October 18, 2023:
The campers are going home tomorrow afternoon with Archie. Fry Cake was very aggressive to Archie as well as to one of his cage mates. I'm pretty sure he has adrenal disease, Kate has an appointment for him Oct 25th to get an implant. Archie met Lili they spent several hours hanging out in the kitchen and dining room with no issues.
They didn't really "play" together but they did stop and sniff each other when they got close to one another. Before I put them away I found them both sleeping in the fish at the bottom of the stairs. I expect he will do well with the crew.

Initial Contact, September 27, 2023:
Good Morning, My family and I recently purchased a ferret that is around 6 months old. He is wonderful and we love him but my husband has severe asthma and Archie the ferret seems to be exacerbating his symptoms so we are looking for a good home. Do you have availability right now for another ferret? Or have other options? Thank you, Erin

Shelter Response:
Where are you located? We have an opening at this time.

Owner Response: We are on Long Island. We are devastated about having to give him up so we are willing to drive somewhere that would take great care of him. There was another ferret rescue is Connecticut that I am waiting to hear back from. I wasn't sure if you would have availability or not.

Shelter Response: We are 6 hours North West of you. We have 24 ferrets in our care, I suggest you find out how many the other shelter has in theirs.

Owner Response: How does it work for your ferrets? Are they out of their cages during the day? Fostered in an home? Online everything looks wonderful, I am just curious. I hope you don’t mind me asking.

Shelter Response: The ferrets in our facility get 8 to 10 hours out of the cage, we have 9 play areas for them to play in. We don't foster our ferrets, we have sponsors. The ferrets get a monthly stipend, that way we have control of their medicals, food and such. Oh goodness not at all, it is good that you are checking to be sure he will be well cared for.

Owner Response: Ok thanks so much for all your helpful information, I really appreciate you taking the time to get back to me. Last question would be how the surrender would work? Are there certain days of the week that I would need to drive up to meet you? Since it’s a bit of a drive, I just need to plan things out a little.

Shelter Response: We take surrenders 7 days a week if you have a day and time that's easiest on you we will do our best to accommodate you. We close at 4pm all 7 days. Giving us a heads up to be sure our calendar is clear for intake is all we ask.

Owner Response: Yes, it’s quick but I would rather be able to do it with my husband and not be alone and tomorrow works for his work schedule. Thank you very much. I also think it would be best while my daughters are in school. I will bring everything with me. I am on my way to a soccer game right now so I’m not home but I can send the name and picture of the food later. I was mixing still with what he was on when we got him at the pet store and another one. The one from the pet store was the regular Marshall ferret diet pellets. I will send information later. Thank you so much again.
